Maybe not a war, but high school kids are indeed debating who’s better to listen to about their future.

Imagine my surprise when I was told by a certain high school kid that they’d rather listen to an entrepreneur than a teacher. In all fairness it was actually “I rather listen entrepeneuars like (insert famous name here) then a gay teacher like you!” The hate comments get intense my friends…..

BUT IT REALLY GOT ME THINKING!

What do some kids think an entrepreneur is?

Comments like this show that some kids think entrepreneurs oppose teachers. It’s getting as bad a political parties; something like entrepreneurs are Democrats and teachers are Republicans.

And there’s often a common political topic up for debate… school and higher education.

Apparently, some kids think that entrepreneurs are against school, formal degrees and licenses, and teachers too, by extension.

But is this really reality?

Teachers and Entrepreneurs shape things uniquely

Bigshot entrepreneurs create the next big innovation in every area of tech and beyond. But here’s the truth they get some education along the way.

Like it or not, teachers play a significant role for entrepreneurs and every other person on the planet. But, here’s what some entrepreneurs actually think that you need to consider first:

  • School methods are sometimes too limiting.
  • School (College) can be really expensive
  • Schools don’t always teach you to stand out.
  • Schools don’t teach you to solve some real-life problems.

As an educator I CAN AGREE WITH THESE

You will observe what entrepreneurs actually think is that specific things about school are not PERFECT. They don’t teach you everything (and perhaps that should) but just because something isn’t perfect doesn’t mean its EVIL.

Also, it should be said that teachers are not the same as “school”.

I cannot stress this enough.

teachers are not the same as “school”

Sure, teachers often represent the interests of the school to their students and parents, but that’s it. Many teachers approach teaching their students in very creative ways, and the whole time incorporating the school curriculum.

Every kid should lose the idea that teachers and entrepreneurs compete against each other for their attention and have wildly different opinions. Now, let me wrap this short piece up with something even more mind-blowing; many teachers are entrepreneurs! Yes, they start creative businesses that create value and they handle all the financial math, organization, management, and…they’re constantly learning, teaching and hiring people to work for them too. Self call, I’m one of these individuals 😉
